Monroeville, PA Residents Battle To Hold Off Wal-Mart

Residents in Monroeville, Pennsylvania are trying to prevent their town from becoming Wal-Martville. Here’s their local report on the battle: “ We are currently fighting Wal-Mart's plans to build a Supercenter in Monroeville, at the border of Pitcairn, PA. Pitcairn is a small borough, the location of this Wal-Mart is 100 feet from our youth sports complex. This complex is used for baseball, t-ball, and football for kids between 6 and 18. Our next rezoning meeting is July 27th." Another resident wrote us, “Wal-Mart is proposing a super Wal-Mart on wetlands and needs a transportation waiver, plus a partial re-zoning. They held their first community mtg. 6/22/05. In this location they will wipe out a small community business district.”
