Waterloo, IA. More Crime At Wal-Mart

According to a report in the August 27th issue of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls (lowa) Courier, a man walked into the Super Wal-Mart in Waterloo on August 24th. with a shotgun wanting to kill someone, but police said he wasn't specifically targeting anyone. Off-duty Waterloo Police Officer Cory Allspach captured 35-year-old Madhav Kavuru after Kavuru fired a shot into a glass window at the store about 2:30 p.m. and entered the building with the weapon. One man was injured by debris kicked up by the first and only shot. Kavuru is an unemployed MBA graduate and inventor. He was locked up at the Black Hawk County Jail on $150,000 bond on charges of terrorism and going armed with intent. According to court records, Kavuru told police he drove to Wal-Mart with the intention of killing someone. "He indicated he wanted to harm somebody, but he didn't know who or why or (have) any explanations," said Capt. Eric Gunderson. Kavuru purchased the 12-gauge shotgun from Wal-Mart in Cedar Falls earlier that day, and at least one other unused shell was in the weapon when he surrendered, Gunderson said. He said Kavuru wasn't carrying any other ammunition or weapons. Kavuru parked his Toyota Camry near the center entrance of Wal-Mart and fired once into the window, according to court records. He then pumped the shotgun to chamber another round and walked into the store, records state. The defendant lives with his parents.

What you can do: For more examples of crimes at Wal-Mart, order the book "Slam Dunking Wal-Mart: How You Can Stop Superstore Sprawl in Your Hometown" by calling toll free 1-877-DUNK WAL. We have a number of incidents in which crimes committed at Wal-Mart were carried out with guns purchased at Wal-Mart. In this case, no one was killed, but in other incidents, fatalities resulted.
